I have simplified this even from the way my mom used to make it.
2 cans Cream of Mushroom soup
1/2 regular carton of sour cream
2-3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
2 teaspoons onion powder
1 teaspoon black pepper
Mix all of those up on the stove and pour over/into egg noodles.
Variations:
- First saute some REAL onions or shallots in the pan with a little bit of oil, then skip the onion powder
- Saute stew beef (or smaller pieces of beef) with onions/shallots and then add everything else
- Saute mushrooms with onions/shallots and then add everything else
- Combination of the above
